I don’t know about you, but it seems hard for me to believe that we are more than halfway through the 2011-2012 school year! This year has been filled with excitement and I appreciate so much the energy and enthusiasm of our staff here at HCS. I wanted to take a few moments to update you on some of the things in progress at Hudsonville Christian.
Strategic Plans - you will remember that last year we developed a 3-5 year plan for our school and I want you to know we are busy discussing and implementing some of those initiatives. Currently, we are working through plans for a 3’s Program for preschool, as well as looking into the possibility of a before-and after-school program at our elementary. Both of these initiatives are ideas we hope to bring to reality by next school year.
Our World Language Committee is also busy at work with plans to launch a Spanish program in grades 3-8 at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. (Preschool - 2nd grade will be happening next year.) We are looking to begin this new program in a way that will possibly allow us to expand to other world languages in years to come.
MAP Testing - I am sure you are aware that we are in our first year of MAP testing at Hudsonville Christian. In fact, the second round of testing is currently taking place at our schools. These tests are just another way we are working to make sure that we continue to challenge your children to meet their God-given potential. We have one more opportunity to measure students’ progress in late April. We are anxious to be able to process the information as a staff and see how it can help us to better challenge and assist your child even more.
Nurturing Faith - Our Nurturing Faith Committee is also busy at work trying to find appropriate ways to determine how well we are doing the work of helping students develop their faith walk here at HCS. The Committee will be sharing more of their work with you later on this year and into the 2012-2013 school year. I want you to know your input is very important to us and for that reason we will be sending home a very short survey to you with this week’s Home Communicator. This survey will also be available to you online at https://docs.google.com/ a/4hcs.org/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dHpOVkN5WU9uNFNRMWd4SGFGLWZwZ0E6MQ. We ask that you tell us the current grade(s) your child(ren) are in. It is our goal to take this information and use it to make Hudsonville Christian School an even better place! We appreciate you taking the time to help us by giving us your perspective.
