An Engaging Place to Learn
Hudsonville Christian Elementary students find a nurturing and affirming environment filled with engaging ways to explore God’s world and grow in their faith.
Academic Excellence
Our Elementary program is designed to challenge and nurture the individual, God-given talents of students in Preschool through fifth grade. Our curriculum is aimed at developing the whole child as a social, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual being, created in His image. We are committed to integrating faith into every aspect of learning including all our academic classes as well as our fine arts and athletic programs.
We understand that God’s children have unique strengths and weaknesses and offer differentiated instruction to meet their individual needs. Students can take advantage of a full range of learning opportunities, from academic support to options for accelerated learners.
In Partnership with Parents
Hudsonville Christian Elementary teachers recognize the importance of parental involvement and communication. They welcome email communication from parents and invite parents to volunteer to help out with special events like field trips and parties.
We also communicate through a weekly home bulletin, called The Home Communicator, which includes school news, announcements, and upcoming events. It is sent home each Tuesday with the youngest or only child of each family. To conserve paper, we recommend you sign-up to receive The Home Communicator via email.
The Spotlight is issued several times each year to inform the broader HCS community of school news and events.
Gifted Teachers
Our elementary school teachers have been especially chosen on the basis of a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as well as their unique teaching skills and passion for Christian education. Each is certified by the state of Michigan and committed to our school mission of challenging minds and lives for Christ.
2011-2012 Theme - ABC: A Biblical Community
Each year, Hudsonville Christian Elementary picks a theme to guide students’ spiritual development. This year’s theme comes from Romans 12:5 where it says, "So we, though many, are one body in Christ."
- Building A Biblical Community at Hudsonville Christian Elementary School we honor and respect each other.
- A Biblical Community of differing ages and abilities. (Disability Awareness)
- A Biblical Community in our home, church, school.
- A Biblical Community with different traditions.
- A Biblical Community with different cultures. (Partnership w/ Plateau.)
- A Biblical Community: showing thankfulness, love, & appreciation.
- A Biblical Community: sharing our faith.
- A Biblical Community with different gifts and talents.
- A Biblical Community reaching out to others.
HCS Elementary School offers students the opportunity to participate in several extracurricular activities, including Junior Great Books (grades 2-3), Girls on the Run (girls in grades 4-5) and Math Pentathlon (grades 1-7).
For more specific information on individual extracurricular activities, please refer to the Extracurricular tab.
Color Days
So that students get an even distribution of their “specials” classes (art, music, library, physical education, and technology), the HCS Elementary School schedule follows a pattern of “color days.” Our weekly schedule cycles through a rotation of four colors: Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. Students quickly grow accustomed to the color days schedule and benefit from every-other-day instruction.
The schedule of Color Days is printed in the Home Communicator each week. If there is an unanticipated cancellation such as a snow day, the color schedule is adjusted to resume on the next day of school.
