Living Beyond Yourself
This week was the beginning of Spiritual Emphasis Weeks at the middle school. During the next two weeks we will focus on the theme – Living Beyond Myself. In Galatians 5 it tells us that “It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself.” Our world’s culture and the messages of society give the opposite message – one of being self-centered and self-absorbed. This is tough on young people as they navigate life and seek to continue to live according to God’s Word. During the Spiritual Emphasis Weeks, student will focus on two core questions:
1. What does it mean to live beyond myself?
2. How can I – that’s right-me, myself, and I – live beyond myself?
Throughout these weeks students will participate in a number of chapels and activities that will challenge them to answer these two questions. We are excited to see what God has planned for us during our Spiritual Emphasis Weeks. We covet your prayers during this time. Pray for all the chapel speakers, the staff, and the 8th grade small group student leaders who will be involved during these weeks. Also, please pray that the students’ hearts are open to hearing God’s message and stirred into action by His Spirit to live beyond themselves as difference makers.
You are welcome to join us for chapels, especially during these Spiritual Emphasis Weeks. The schedule:
