Global Awareness

Global awareness is part of the education of our students and helps our students’ spiritual development and gives them a perspective as Kingdom citizens. Because we live in a global society, we encourage our students to respectfully and comfortably interact with people who are different than them. The Global Awareness Committee fosters and encourages global awareness in the students as part of being a Kingdom builder.

In January of 2015, the Global Awareness Committee felt lead to broaden our global awareness with the students by including a Spanish speaking partnership school.  After much prayer and seeking, Jubilee Centers International and HCS have decided to build a relationship together.

In September, 2004 a group of HCS teachers began a prayer team to ask for God’s leading on how we could enhance Christian education by increasing global awareness and respect for all of God’s people.  We wanted to give our students concrete, hands-on experiences in understanding Christ’s worldwide Kingdom.  We began to explore the concept of a learning partnership with a school in another part of the world.  Hudsonville Christian School began a partnership with Plateau Primary School in Eldoret, Kenya in 2007.  Over the years our relationship grew and HCS has hosted teachers and administration from Plateau Primary School and HCS has sent teachers and staff to Kenya as well.  In 2011, HCS partnered with several organizations to bring clean, safe water to the school and its community.  Through this partnership we celebrated cultural differences, shared experiences across our cultures and gave our students a first hand experience in seeing that God’s holy nation is a people of every race, tribe, language and culture.  Our partnership continues on a limited basis based on the lack of internet connections in that area.
