Superintendent/Head of School Update:

Greetings HCS families and HCS staff. In all that we have and will experience this school year, God remains sovereign. This was extremely evident in the search process for the new superintendent. By His grace, favor, guidance, and provision, the Hudsonville Christian School Board and the Superintendent Search Committee are pleased to announce that Devon Brinks, currently Superintendent of DeMotte Christian Schools in Indiana, after unanimous approval was offered and accepted the position of the next Superintendent of Hudsonville Christian. It was clear throughout the search process that Devon was the person that God had chosen to serve Him in this leadership role at Hudsonville Christian School. Devon will take on the responsibilities of Superintendent on July 1, 2021. Until that time, Mary Broene will remain as Interim Superintendent.

Devon and his wife, Lisa, have three children – an 8-year-old daughter, a 5-year-old son, and a 2-year old daughter.  Devon has been a teacher and administrator at DeMotte Christian Schools for 14 years, the last 4 years serving as superintendent. Devon grew up in Hudsonville and attended Hudsonville Christian School and Unity Christian High School before attending Trinity Christian College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Devon earned his Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Indiana University and his Educational Specialist degree from Indiana State University. (You can find more complete biographical information and a picture of the Brinks family on the home page of our website.)

Our sincere thanks to the Superintendent Search Committee, David Ritter – Imago Dei Group –  for his guidance throughout the search process, the HCS School Board, and the HCS staff and community for their time, support, and prayers throughout the search process. The unity in one body throughout the process was evident and we praise God for that. Please continue to be in prayer for Devon and his family as they start to prepare for this transition. Please pray as well for DeMotte Christian Schools as they now start the work of finding their new superintendent.

In Him,

Mary Broene, HCS Interim Superintendent – on behalf of the HCS School Board and HCS Superintendent Search Committee

Philosophical Biography

As a servant leader, it is my duty to ensure that HCS is assisting Christian homes and partnering with churches to work together in the important task of raising children to know and follow Christ.  Our teachers and staff will continue to partner with families to invest in the hearts and minds of students.  Christian education is about how the Lordship of Christ impacts every area of life, every action, every subject, and every hobby.  At Hudsonville Christian School, this indicates that we must emphasize that all areas and experiences like Mathematics, History, Science, Band, recess, and athletic practices encompass our faith in our Perfect Father.  There is no area or activity in school and life that should not include God.

This reformed worldview should and will impact my role as a Christian educator.  It will impact all that we do and plan to do at HCS.  If it is part of who we are, it should impact each decision that we make for our students, it should impact how we treat one another as Christian brothers and sisters, and it should allow us to be open to continual growth for both now and the future.  This philosophical belief allows us to partner together to fulfill the covenantal responsibility of challenging our students’ minds and lives for Christ.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
