April 10 Home Communicator – Spring Break was hopefully a time for family, friends, fun, and maybe a little sun if you went south. It was also a time to recharge those proverbial batteries for teachers and students after the long winter stretch. Now that we are back there is a buzz in the halls from students talking about all the exciting things that they did over break, as well as for some getting to see friends they missed for a whole week. However, those are not the only exciting things happening this week. Below are just a couple of highlights:
- Teachers have been planning long and hard in 4th grade for a week where they will use the Project Based Learning model with their students. These students will be working to design and develop plans for the outdoor space in front of the elementary. This week the students and staff will finally get to embark on this journey by exploring, collaborating, and developing in many different real life situations, ending with presentations next week to business owners, city officials, naturalists, and community members.
- Another exciting development actually happened just before spring break, but will be utilized more in the coming weeks and months. A big thank you to Parents’ Club for partnering with school in implementing a Math Facts program to support our teachers in 2nd-5th grade. Reflex Math takes a fun interactive online game combined with a very complex and thoroughly researched formula to develop practice for students to master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. The beauty of this program is if desired, students can access this at home as well.
As everyone struggles to get out of bed and adjusts to things after spring break, there are some exciting things happening inside and outside the halls of Hudsonville Christian!
In Christ,
