Seeing 4 Schoolers lead the whole school in chapel brings tears to my eyes. This past Friday, our 4 School students stood in the gym and had the chance to remind us that God created each of us different and we are all part of one body.
They read the story, The Crayon Box that Talked. The crayons in this box were not getting along, and each one thought it was the most important color. A little girl brought this crayon box home, and the crayons began to draw a picture together. As each crayon added their color and detail to the drawing, the crayons realized that they needed each color to make the picture complete.
Then the 4 Schoolers showed us some drawings they made in class. Some pictures were all red, some were all blue, some were all black, and some were all yellow. These single-colored pictures looked very plain. However, when our students used all the colors, the drawings looked bright and beautiful.
The 4 School teachers explained that God created a world full of color and that includes each of us. We all have different gifts, interests, and abilities. We all have different skin tones and body types. Yet, we all belong to Him and He needs each of us to make His world complete.
In our world and even in our own communities, it is sometimes hard for us to see beyond our own interests. We wonder how someone else could think, act, or speak the way they do. However, the 4 Schoolers reminded us that God commands us to “Love one another for love comes from God,” (I John 4:7). This command sounds so simple and yet we need God’s help and grace to follow it.
To end their time of worship, one little boy closed in prayer saying,
Thank you for us to have this joyous day.
Thank you for we to have chapel today.
Thank you for we to go to school.
Thank you for us to be nice today.
Thank you for us to have this joyous day.
Amen
Yes, Lord. We have so much to be thankful for. Thank you for the gift of these little ones pointing us back to you and challenging us to live a life of love toward others. Help us to be able to see others in your image and live together as one body.
Serving God together,
