April 27 Home Communicator – It is almost the month of May! It is amazing how quickly the school year is going. Yet we still have important and exciting work to do – and time to do it. As one body of many members, we are created for a purpose, a calling, a mission. Regardless of the circumstances, that calling remains the same – to go into the world, be agents of restoration, be disciples for HIm, share the message of God’s faithfulness, and share the love of Jesus with others – to do Kingdom work.
In my personal devotions, I have been reading from the book of John. Chapter 17 speaks to being unified in doing Kingdom work. In verses 21-23, Jesus’ desire for his disciples was that they would become one. He wanted them unified as a powerful witness to God’s love. This is His desire for us as well. And as Christians, we can know unity among ourselves when we are living in union with God – each branch living in union with the Vine is united with all the other branches doing the same thing. Or – as our theme verse states – …so in Christ we, though many, form One Body, and each member belongs to all the others. This chapter also tells us that Jesus prays for believers – which means He is praying for you and me. Knowing this should give us the desire and confidence as we work for His Kingdom.
We are so blessed to be one body in Him at HCS! Let’s continue to work together in His Kingdom work. I realize at times this work seems daunting, especially in a world of divisiveness and uncertainty. At times it seems overwhelming. It is exactly during these times that it is even more important for us to push through the distractions and come together as one body of believers. We can do this by staying grounded in His Word and letting Scripture saturate our minds and hearts. Let’s take advantage of the time we have left this school year to do this important work.
Each morning, the leadership team offers the following prayer. I ask you to join us in this prayer dedicating each day to Kingdom work. “Lord, help us to be more like You. Give us eyes to see the change that is needed in our own lives. Give us courage and commitment to stick with it even when it is difficult. So many mornings, we don’t feel adequate to handle the day ahead, but Lord You don’t call those who can do ALL things. So today, we claim that promise and thank You in advance for the kingdom work You are going to do through each one of us. We give this day to You. Amen.”
In Him,

“My prayer is not for them (the disciples) alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me —so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
“Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” John 17:20-26 NIV
