February 14 Home Communicator – When God is in the Classroom
I shared a post on Facebook this week with my son who is a 5th grade teacher at Manistee Public School. It was entitled “When God is in the Classroom,” and was written by a public school teacher, Mrs. Ackley. I personally don’t know Mrs. Ackley, but I sure appreciate her thoughts about God, kids, and teaching.
“How can you work in a public school when you can’t share your faith with the kids?” This quote from her article really caught my attention. During my tenure as a public school teacher, I was asked that question numerous times. My answer was similar to the theme of Mrs. Ackley’s article, that God can never be removed from a classroom led by a teacher who lives for Him. God is so much bigger than that.
Why then, do I support Christian education? At Hudsonville Christian, we want to prepare our students for a life of service in the name of The One. My desire is to see former students teaching in the public school as well as in the Christian school community. What could be better than sending our graduates into this broken world, shining the light of Jesus? Our charge is not to hide the Light, but shine it for all to see. Even in the public school.
Thank you for the reminder, Mrs. Ackley. If you are interested in reading her article “When God is in the Classroom” you can find it at this Blog Link
