February 2 Home Communicator – God is Love
The book of I John is one of my favorite books of the Bible to read. It talks about God’s love and ours. As we begin the month of February, a month focused on the idea of “love”, it seems fitting to reflect on this topic and what God’s Word tells us about love.
John tells us that “God is love”. This love explains why (1) God creates – because He loves, He creates people to love; (2) God cares – because He loves them, He cares for sinful people; (3) we are free to choose – God wants a loving response from us; (4) Christ died – His love for us caused Him to seek a solution to the problem of sin; and (5) we receive eternal life – God’s love expresses itself to us forever.
Everyone believes that love is important, but love is usually thought of as a feeling. In reality, love is a choice and an action. This is seen most clearly by the example of Christ’s love for us, which led him to die on the cross for our salvation. Jesus is the complete expression of God in human form and He has revealed God to us. When we love one another, the invisible God reveals himself to others through us, and His love is made complete. What a great reminder as we continue to focus on our theme of being difference makers,
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. . . .
God is love. . . .
We love because he first loved us.”
