February 28 Home Communicator – “I believe that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.”
These were the words professed by six individuals in our church yesterday. It was an amazing morning! And it reminded me of baptism, and the commitment of the parents and the greater congregation that poured into those individuals along the way. For in the reformed faith tradition, it is at baptism that parents commit that, with God’s help, they will raise their children up in the knowledge of the Lord. Then it is the congregation that pledges to also support them in this commitment.
It is a blessing for me, as a father of three, to know that my church is committed to support my family. To rejoice in times of celebration, assist in times of need, and to pray and give further support in times of stress and trouble.
And 100 years ago, a few churches felt a call to do more. So, out of that pledge of Christian family, sprouted the concept of Christian education in Hudsonville. And God has blessed us and grown our supporting families and churches. Our children are in school 4 to 7 hours a day–a significant part of their early years. So it is obvious how many see Christian education as another way to help raise children up in the knowledge of the Lord.
It is a blessing to be able to pray and support families in each of our local churches. And together we can bless the larger body of Christ followers by continuing to provide a quality Christian education for their children at Hudsonville Christian School.
