February 28 Home Communicator-I was in communication with one of our HCS parents this week, and she shared something that deeply touched me.
Her child said, “Mom, I think caring what people think about me might be an idol in my life. My teacher was teaching us about idols in our life, and sometimes I care about that more than I care what God thinks of me and that’s an idol.” Wow! I’m quite certain that as adults, we can learn a lot from this. I know that I sure can! When was the last time you thought about what idols might be in your life? Is there something in your life that you put before God? Your kids? Your spouse? Your kids’ sports? Your TV shows or social media? Or, like this precious elementary student…do you care more about what others think about you than what God thinks about you? If yes to any of these, it’s an idol, and as followers of Christ, we need to put God before any of these. In our flesh, this is so very difficult, but when we really live out Galatians 2:20, it is very possible, as Christ lives in us!
These types of lessons are happening every single day at Hudsonville Christian, and our teachers are so intentional about helping our kids deepen their walk with the Lord. There is truly no greater joy than to see our students growing in their faith, deepening their relationship with their Creator. I would encourage you to ask your child/children about what they’ve been learning. You never know what incredible conversation might come from a simple question. And you might just learn something from them.

Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
