January 16 Home Communicator – A lot of people (especially former students) always ask me “What exactly do you do again, Mr. Knot?” I always have a different answer because truthfully each day is different. However, one of the constant blessings that I have in my role is getting to work with Christian teachers every day.
Hudsonville Christian is a great place for many reasons, but one of them is the teachers and all they do in this place. Last week I took notes on things I noticed or saw as I was making my rounds. I see a teacher cleaning salmon tanks and checking pH levels intermittently throughout the day. I notice a teacher explaining to students that at recess they may be pets or animals, but during class time they really should be humans. I see teachers leading brain breaks between subject areas. I notice teachers leading conversations with classes about the ocean floor, metamorphic rocks, types of poetry, punctuation, etc. Of course I can’t forget seeing the teachers dressed as serfs, jesters, ladies, and knights to live in the medieval times for a day. I notice teachers rushing to other buildings to coach or see a student in the spelling bee. I see teachers zipping up coats, tying shoes, blowing noses, and giving hugs. The beauty of all of this is that these teachers never even think twice about doing these things.
The life of a teacher is one that is ever changing, just like the life of a Curriculum Director. So when anyone asks me what it is I get to do, really the best answer is that I get to be a small part of and experience the body of Christ. One of my favorite passages is 1 Corinthians 12:12-20, and it truly is a blessing that I get to live and be a part of that passage each day.
In Christ,
Justin Knot, Curriculum Director
