January 23 Home Communicator – I was looking at some Twitter messages the other day and I saw this: #Blessed. I was intrigued by the messages and I decided to read a few. It was interesting that many of the blessings focused on things like a new job or an unexpected raise at work. I often think of the song by Laura Story when she says, “What if our blessings come through raindrops? … What if trials of this life – the rain, the storms, the hardest nights – are your mercies in disguise?”
I was reading an article by Vaneetha Risner entitled, “What Does it Really Mean to be #Blessed?” In the article she writes, “What is a blessing? Scripture shows that a blessing is anything God gives that makes us fully satisfied in Him. Anything that draws us closer to Jesus. Anything that helps us relinquish the temporal and hold on more tightly to the eternal. And often it is the struggles and trials, the aching disappointments and the unfulfilled longings that best enable us to do that.”
As many of you know, I am on a journey fighting cancer. I am thankful to God that He has allowed me to handle treatments as well as I have and have seen positive results so far with those treatments … but I will admit this journey has not always allowed me to feel “blessed” in the way we so often use the word. Reading through the Scriptures and a variety of devotionals on #Blessed have really given me a different perspective and outlook on the word “blessed”.
I can honestly say I am truly blessed to be a part of this community where I am reminded daily that I do not walk through this alone. I do not have words to express my sincere gratefulness to so many for your prayers and support.
On my desk is a plaque that reminds me each day that I am not alone on this journey. The plaque reads “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” Exodus 14:14. God’s greatest blessings are in Him alone. When we have that, we understand the true meaning of #Blessed.
