January 26 Home Communicator – Our Mission is Growing!
Last week Thursday night was Early Childhood Exploration Night, one of my favorite nights of the year! It is always
so exciting to see hundreds of parents and children walking the halls, learning about HCS. The smiles on the kids’ faces say it all! I am always blessed to be able to listen to parent stories and to share with them a picture of what HCS is all about. This year on that night, we also talked about Kids’ Corner, our new daycare program at HCS. We are so excited to be able to partner with parents in yet another way.
While plans are underway for these Early Childhood programs, it is also a time that we are finalizing plans for our Expansion Project! Last Monday night, our Board approved the financial plans for our project, the last piece needed before we begin. Since we began this campaign in August, we have received gifts and pledges totaling more than half of the 2.9 million dollars needed for this project. We are well on our way!
The timeline for this project is tight, but if all goes well we will be able to move our 4th and 5th grade classes into the North wing when school begins on August 30. Additionally, our Early Childhood classrooms should be open, as well as Kids’ Corner. Although our classes will be moving into the North wing this fall, our current plan is to renovate that wing and a few of those classrooms the following summer in June of 2017. This will give us an opportunity to “live in” the new wing for a year and determine the best educational updates for that space.
Many have asked what will be happening with the North and South gymnasiums. Our students will use the North Gym during the day for some of our elementary and middle school classes. Unity Christian students and athletic teams will have access to the gym at night. At this time, the plan for the South Gym is to keep it up, at least until a final decision can be made in the next year or two. With a few modifications, the South Gym is a facility that may be available to rent to groups in our community, beginning next fall.
Plans are also in the works for a Community Day in the near future. Community Day is a time that those who are interested may walk through the portion of the old Unity building that will be torn down. Items that are left, such as doors and lockers, etc., will be available for purchase, with proceeds split between Unity Christian and Hudsonville Christian Schools.
We are grateful to God for His leading and we covet your prayers in the coming weeks and months. Our goal is to have all the funds raised before the end of 2016! With your continued support and God’s leading, this can become a reality!
Serving Him Together,
Dan Pott, Superintendent
