January 31 Home Communicator – Do you know when God is trying to get your attention? For me, He typically keeps bringing a topic up to me over and over again. It just happened again at church on Sunday, as it has throughout the last couple of weeks, and I just smiled and internally said, “Got it, God”!
He has been teaching me more about being obedient. Whew…that can be a tough one, but it is of utmost importance! Our message on Sunday was from John 2:1-11, where Jesus changed water into wine. It was Jesus’ first miracle. Mary told the servants to do whatever Jesus told them to do, and Jesus asked the servants to fill the jars with water. From there, Jesus turned the water into wine. I want you to think about the fact that the servants were obedient. They did their job of doing what Jesus had asked of them. They did the simple thing of filling the jars. They were obedient. And Jesus did the rest!
At HCS, it is our prayer that we are showing our students what it looks like to take steps of obedience. I look at some of our own staff and teachers who have taken steps of obedience to do some hard, but beautiful things like adopt a child (or many children), to help bring a refugee family into the US to give them a new start, to meet with a former student of theirs who needed an adult in their life to show them more of Jesus and give Biblical counsel, to serving the Lord by jetting across the world to help another Christian school and bring back to HCS what they themselves learned. I know that they are sharing these stories with their students, and our kids are watching and learning more about what taking steps of obedience looks like!
Now, remember what happened at the end of Jesus’ first miracle of turning the water into wine? We are told in John that it was the first of the signs through which Jesus revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him! This miracle started with the servants being obedient by filling the jars, and through this act, Jesus performed the miracle and His glory was revealed and people believed in Him! Our job here on earth is really to be obedient to His call. We take the first step of obedience…and He does the big things! May His glory be revealed so more will come to know Him!
Serving The One with you, being obedient to His call…
