January 5 Home Communicator – Happy New Year! It really is hard to believe another year has passed. As a child, I remember watching the “ball drop” at midnight and being somewhat amazed at the fact that we were now in a whole new year. Trivial, I know, but at the age of 5 or 6, such things can be a big deal!
On January 1, 2016, I may look at things just a little differently. Over time, I have learned to appreciate each day that He has given to me and realize it truly is a gift from Him. I have learned to step back and reflect on the blessings, both personally and also as a school.
One of the things I always work on during Christmas break is the budget for the upcoming school year. This process really helps to give great perspective on how far we have come and also helps us to have vision for the future. The process, though tedious at times, really helps me to see “big picture” when at times we can become bogged down in the important, yet tedious, details.
While monetary budgeting, reflection, and goal setting are important tasks, I believe focusing on the spiritual side of reflection and goals is of even greater importance, both personally and as a school. While reading through a few Christian leaders’ articles the other day, I was struck by these comments:
- We should love students the way God loves students and love our neighbors as ourselves … live beyond ourselves.
- Stay focused on what really matters. I would add, we have been challenged in many ways to be “Difference Makers”.
- Never give up. Run the race with endurance.
Rest assured that Hudsonville Christian will continue to focus on what really matters – standing firm in God’s Word yet moving forward in our mission of challenging minds and lives for Him.
Serving Him together,
Dan Pott, Superintendent
