June 2 Home Communicator -Dear Parents,
This is the last Home Communicator of the 2019 – 2020 school year. What an unusual school year it has been! As a leadership team, one sentiment we have heard so often this year is, “This isn’t quite the year you were expecting, is it?” And no, it certainly hasn’t been. When we began school in the fall of 2019, our plans for the year were very much different from how things turned out in the end. If we’re honest, at times this year all three of us have felt a little bit overwhelmed for the roles in which we found ourselves. It brings to mind the Bible stories of Moses, Joshua, Gideon, and so many others. They were regular people who were called by God to do big things. They felt inadequate, too, but the theme running through all of those stories is that they weren’t in it alone. God promised that He would be with them. God called them to do His work and He would equip them to do it. He would not leave them or give up on them.
One thing we have felt very strongly this year is that God has called us to do the work of leading Hudsonville Christian School. Though we are weak and inadequate on our own, if we continue to give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord, as our theme verse states this year, our work will not be in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). This year was one of being open and faithful to His plan and being open and faithful to His timing regardless of how difficult the journey might be, and to consider it pure joy in trials and hard times. Our prayer is that we have modeled this for our students and in a small way have nurtured their faith and personal relationship with Him.
We did not do this work alone. God was consistently present and faithful as we remained open to the plan that He set in front of us. He blessed us in so many ways. The HCS staff was one of those blessings. The HCS students were one of those blessings. And YOU were one of those blessings. We are so thankful for all of you! When we reflect on this entire school year with everything that has happened, we remember the words of Paul to the Philippians and how these words are so fitting for the whole HCS community – “I/We thank my God every time I/we remember you. In all my/our prayers for all of you, I/we always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
God’s blessings to you during the summer months. We continue to pray for your families to stay healthy and well. We will be sure to share updates regarding the structure of in-person instruction in school for the fall as they are defined and developed. We will end with a prayer of blessing from Numbers 6 –
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make His face to shine on you
and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace.”
Serving Him together,
The HCS Leadership Team
