March 14 Home Communicator – STEM Week is Coming!
Something new is about to arrive at Hudsonville Christian Elementary School… STEM Week! March 27-30 will give kids a chance to try out a new engineering challenge every day. Each teacher will be leading unique activities for multi-age groups. Examples of the challenges include: Waterslides, Ozobots, Snap Circuits, Lego Challenge, Egg Drop, and many more.
The learning targets for this week focus on both academic and social. We want kids to learn how to set up working agreements, use the design process, talk about growth mindset and learn what engineers do in their professions. Mr. Boekeloo, father of 3rd grade teacher Ms. Boekeloo, will be kicking off our week speaking from the perspective of a real engineer.
What does STEM Week have to do with a Christian education? At Hudsonville Christian, we want to live our goal of “Challenging Minds and Lives for Christ!” Teaching our children how to problem solve, work together, and think creatively will shine a light on the original designer, The One. We hope to challenge Minds to think creatively every day this week, but to challenge Lives to be in relationship with Christ forever!
Sincerely,
Sue Spotts, Director of Curriculum
