May 14 Home Communicator -Giving Thanks
Some of you may remember the days of magazine sales, candy bars, Christmas cards, sub sandwiches, Christmas wrapping paper…. Those are many of the ways this community supported our students for various activities and supported the efforts of our Parents’ Club. With each new sale, we encouraged families to get involved and children to get excited! It was no surprise to me that you all found it in your heart, your freezers, and your shelves to support all of these adventures. Teachers faithfully collected envelopes and distributed prizes to children who successfully sold “stuff”.
One day, I was talking with our Parents’ Club and wondering out loud, “Could we do it differently? Could we have one activity that could replace all of our fundraisers?” We talked to parents and grandparents and they assured us they would support a walkathon if that one event could replace everything. As they say, the rest is history. It’s no big surprise to me that this amazing community has once again exceeded our expectations!
As you may have read in the Home Communicatorlast week, the Walkathon raised just under $120,000 for our Preschool – 8thgrade programs. That is simply amazing! These funds help to defray or replace costs of so many of our activities at our preschool, elementary and middle schools. The additional piece of the Walkathon that brings a smile to my face each year is participation at the event. It is so good to see moms, dads, grandparents and friends all out walking the track in support of the children. I continue to give thanks to God for this community and for the way you support your children and Christian education.
Serving Him together,
Dan Pott, Superintendent
