May 17 Home Communicator – I left school in tears. To be clear and to keep my reputation intact, that is not typical of me. Maybe I should explain. I finished meeting with a prospective family who deeply desired to enroll their two children at Hudsonville Christian School. They scouted other schools and it continued to be clear that HCS is the place for their children. As they looked at their finances, they did not know how they were going to afford Christian education. They took time to thoroughly itemize each income and expense into their budget and quickly recognized that their desire for Christian education was not going to be an option for their family. It was concluded that it is not fiscally responsible for them despite how many combinations of potential cuts were explored. This realization hurt because they prayed for an opportunity for Christian education to be provided and the doors appeared to be closing quickly. The partnership that they hoped for with HCS appeared to be much farther than they originally imagined. In a plea for help, they prayed. They reached out for a meeting to explain their situation and desire. During that meeting, they received worse news. The financial commitment they thought they would need to contribute was even more than they realized. All hope appeared lost.
Now I would like to share with you some details that former radio host, Paul Harvey, would call, “The rest of the story.” What this family did not know is how God was orchestrating events to occur at the precise moments to make the impossible very possible in this particular situation. In the previous week, financial opportunities for other families opened up and scholarships that were provided and assigned to them were not needed. This allowed the opportunity for this prospective family to qualify for a scholarship that previously was not available. After the meeting was completed, we did some calculations to see if the family discounts and the scholarship would be close or not. Between the precalculated discount and scholarship, the tuition amount that this family would need to commit to was EXACTLY what the family shared they could afford during that meeting. There was no manipulation of numbers or extra help. It just was. IT WAS GOD’S WORK AND WE GIVE HIM THE GLORY! He orchestrated the fulfillment of a need to an exact amount for this family. I was able to witness God working in ways that humans cannot do even if we tried. He turns the impossible into the possible.
So yes, I did cry on my way home from this meeting. I saw God work the impossible and it brought tears of awe with another God sighting. I love that I am able to witness these moments in the role that I serve. I thoroughly enjoy sharing these God sightings because it is a reminder of the many blessings that God has provided to Hudsonville Christian School and its families.
Your contributions to help with tuition assistance has an impact greater than we sometimes recognize. Your gifts toward causes like our Forward in Faith middle school expansion project penetrate a huge need as we carry out our mission within the challenges of growth at HCS. Please prayerfully consider ways that you can be a blessing to Hudsonville Christian School because the heart and minds of our students are worth investing in.
In His service, Devon K. Brinks, HCS Superintendent
