May 24 Home Communicator – Ten Thousand Reasons – Bless the Lord
This past week the middle school music groups – band, choir, and orchestra – along with the 5th grade band had their spring concert performances. These spring concerts are always fun because one hears the results of many months of practice and rehearsals. It is amazing the progress that is made in one school year. We are blessed to have talented directors who share their gifts and talents with the students. Their passion for music and using it to praise and honor God is evident, and the students catch that passion.
At both concerts the Matt Redman song “Ten Thousand Reasons” was played. This song has a very special place in the hearts of our 8th graders as it was song at the funeral of their classmate, David Talsma, who died last August in a car accident. The words of this song have taken on a deeper meaning to them as Christian young people. As I watched the students play and listened to the words of this song, I was struck with the truth of the words for believers. And I was overwhelmed by the love and reassurance we have in Christ Jesus. Yes, we have ten thousand reasons – and many more – to bless the Lord.
Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul, Worship His Holy name. Sing like never before, O my soul, I’ll worship Your Holy name.
You’re rich in love And You’re slow to anger. Your name is great And Your heart is kind. For all Your goodness I will keep on singing. Ten thousand reasons
The sun comes up It’s a new day dawning. It’s time to sing Your song again. Whatever may pass And whatever lies before me. Let me be singing When the evening comes.
And on that day When my strength is failing. The end draws near And my time has come. Still my soul will Sing Your praise unending. Ten thousand years |
