May 9 Home Communicator – Minecraft and Mission
Hmm… what might these two words have to do with Hudsonville Christian School?
Minecraft
In a recent conversation with some Middle School students, the topic of Minecraft came up. You’ve likely heard of this creative video game, but if not, think of it as “digital Legos”. In Minecraft, there is an advanced feature called Redstone, which I know very little about. As I asked some Redstone questions, one Middle School student offered to give me a Redstone lesson.
I took him up on it.
I can honestly say, my Minecraft lesson was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had in quite some time. With the student/teacher tables turned, this particular 8th grader prepared the most amazing lesson for me, starting with a simple definition of Redstone and advancing to the many applications of the energy source. His ability to lead me to understand the very complicated world of Minecraft was impressive. He was polite, encouraging, and clear.
Mission
“Challenging Minds and Lives for Christ” is our Mission here at Hudsonville Christian School. It is the “for Christ” that sets us apart from other schools. We want our students equipped to be polite, encouraging and clear about The One whom we serve. As our children bear the name of Christ in this fallen world, could they be like my Minecraft teacher with a mission to lead others to a better understanding of The One?
I sure hope so!
Sincerely,
Sue Spotts, Director of Curriculum
