November 8 Home Communicator – Principal’s Note – “God Glasses”
Hudsonville Christian School strives to be excellent in all areas of education of our students. We are called by God to provide the best education for all of His children. While this is important in the area of academics, it is vital and eternally important in the area of spiritual nurturing. This IS our most important goal on which to focus. If you take a few minutes to reflect on this you can easily give numerous examples of how the staff intentionally provide opportunities each and every day for faith nurturing.
At the middle school, one very intentional way we challenge our students in their faith walk is during Spiritual Emphasis Week – S.E.W. For many weeks prior to S.E.W., a committee of teachers and myself meet to plan a week focusing on a message that God has placed before us. In the past we have focused on themes such as ‘iCommunity’; ‘Jim Class’; ‘God is Saying Something’; ‘Liar, Liar’; ’Follow the Leader’; and “Living Beyond Myself’. We have had some amazing spirit-filled times with students during these weeks.
This week is Spiritual Emphasis Week. Our focus for the week is “God Glasses – Seeing the world through His truth” based on the verse from Ephesians 1: 17-19:
17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,
may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
That power is the same as the mighty strength.”
Throughout the week students will participate in a number of chapels and activities that will challenge them to see through His eyes. We are excited to see what God has planned for us during our Spiritual Emphasis Weeks.
Spiritual Emphasis week is such a special time when we as a student body and staff respond individually to the focus of the week but also collectively as a community of believers. God will do amazing things during this week that will lead a deeper relationship with Him and also meaningful conversations with each other. Please be in prayer for our students and staff as we participate in this special week – prayers for blessings during the week; for the Holy Spirit’s presence to be obvious and powerful; and his message clear. Also pray that what is learned and experienced continues to impact us far beyond this week.
