October 11 Home Communicator – Every afternoon after school, we have 50 students come to our Kids’ Corner childcare. We are so thankful for the opportunity to care for our students who stay with us after school. We spend the afternoon doing projects, playing games, finishing homework, and playing outside or in the gym.
Last week after school, I had the opportunity to sit down and connect with our 1st-5th grade students, and we spent time reviewing some of our Kids’ Corner expectations together. I gave them time to share some of their own ideas. Lots of kids took turns making suggestions—we should use walking feet, be respectful of the staff, use inside voices, etc. In the middle of all the suggestions, one little boy raised his hand and said, “We should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” It brought tears to my eyes—God’s Word was written on his heart and he was able to share that with his peers. It was such a beautiful testament to God’s wisdom that can be applied in our Kids’ Corner classrooms as well as in all of our daily relationships.
I am so thankful for the privilege we have at HCS to unpack God’s Word with our students and memorize Scripture. As the Bible tells us, we need to “impress it on your children. Talk about it when you sit at home and when you walk along the road. When you lie down and when you get up.” Deut. 6:7
It is my prayer that we continue to grow in our knowledge of God so that His Word is imprinted on all our hearts!
