October 18 Home Communicator – During the month of October, a group of HCS students are joining together to train and compete in a soccer game against Zeeland Christian. These teams are intentionally made up of students with and without disabilities and are designed to promote friendships and understanding. It is an opportunity for students who wouldn’t otherwise be on a team together to spend time with one another, encouraging each other and sharpening each other’s gifts and talents.
I am so thankful to be part of a school that strives to embrace, educate, and grow community among students of all abilities. There is a cultivating belief among HCS teachers and staff that each individual student is part of God’s creation and contributes to our school community. Not everyone brings the same contribution, but all are complementary parts of the body – the student body and the body of believers. I think of when Paul spoke to the people of Corinth:.
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NIV)
The gifts of the Spirit are given for the purposes of ministry for the good of the body, by the Holy Spirit. Like the unity of the Trinity, the gifts of ministry should bring unity. It’s exciting to see this unity happening right here at HCS!
