October 20 Home Communicator – Dear Parents,
It all started with devotions. A classroom full of 5th graders took some time to reflect and discuss the devotional of the day, which was based on the Bible story of Adam and Eve. One student raised the following question: “If Jesus came to die on the cross to beat sin, why are we still dealing with sin in our world today?” This question sparked some deep conversations about faith and Christianity.
Since many of the questions that arose were difficult to answer, the teacher invited a local pastor to come and talk directly with the class and answer the questions they had been pondering. It was a powerful conversation and the teacher mentioned he had never seen 5th graders think so deeply.
These classroom conversations also spurred one 5th grader to connect with her great grandfather–a retired pastor. She had the opportunity to ask the questions that were on her mind and her great grandfather was able to pass down his wisdom and experience from so many years of following Jesus. There is something so special and beautiful about faith in Christ being shared across the generations.
The Holy Spirit is alive and at work here at Hudsonville Christian! Please continue to pray that God will use experiences like this one to raise up students and staff members to build His Kingdom here on earth!
Blessings,
Tricia Kiepert, Elementary Principal
