October 22 Home Communicator – Over the last couple of years, our staff has been putting a lot of work into developing educational practices that serve the goals of specific and informative instruction. This allows all students, staff, and parents to be better informed and involved in the education each student receives at HCS. One of the more visible ways you will see these changes this year is in the information and set up of our Elementary report cards. Our first report cards will be coming out in a couple of weeks so I would like to update you on some of the changes you may see.
First, we have taken the time to align all of our K-5 report cards using a common scale. This scale will allow for better understanding of the student’s progress based on a specific skill or standard. It also allows for consistency in assessments and evaluation practices from grade level to grade level.
Second, we have worked to align common social and work behaviors for students K-5. This provides consistency between grades with the opportunity to show growth in these areas over time.
Third, report cards will be more detailed with specific skills/standards listed in each subject area. This allows parents, teachers, and students the ability to easily identify strengths and weaknesses while providing a foundation to further education through discussions and teaching.
In a couple weeks, student report cards will be available on RenWeb and a link will also be sent in an email. I encourage you to take the time to read through them carefully. We are excited to provide these updates in the elementary and hope that they will be able to further our partnership in providing the best education possible for every child at HCS.
