Last week, students had a couple of days off so our teaching staff could attend the Christian Educators Association Convention in South Bend, Indiana. During this annual conference, Christian educators from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan have the opportunity to attend sessions that range from helping kids who have been affected by trauma to learning about new books to use in the classroom to creating a positive climate in our schools and classrooms.
As educators, we have many opportunities throughout the year to develop professionally; however, the CEA Convention is one type of professional development where the Christian perspective takes center stage. We begin and end the conference with a time of worship and listen to keynote speakers who encourage us in our daily quest to educate our students from a Christian worldview. The topics we learn about in the sessions are also seen through the lens of Christianity. Spending time learning from and with other Christian educators helps us to continue to provide a distinctly Christian education experience for our students.
The convention is always an excellent reminder of why we do what we do as educators. As I walk the halls and visit classrooms at HCS, I see staff members and students who purposefully infuse their words and actions with the love of Christ. I am looking forward to sharing some of those stories with you in the future.
