October 4 Home Communicator – SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE!
Thursday evening, we had the privilege of opening our doors to the broader HCS community during our open house. What an incredible evening it was! It was so beautiful to see the generations represented, and many in attendance spent their elementary/middle school years at Hudsonville Christian, and their high school years at Unity. It was so fun to listen to the comments of people: “Wow, there is so much space” and “It’s so strange walking these halls again” to “Remind me of what this looked like before the renovation”. We answered a lot of questions and also heard some great stories!
Before the open house on Thursday, an appreciation supper was held for the many contractors that gifted HCS with free/discounted labor and supplies for the Expansion Project. There were many times in that hour where I paused and thanked the Lord for His goodness…for the hands and minds and hearts that gave so much to Him through their work on this project.
Earlier in the day, one of our grandparents was helping to ready the school for the open house by washing a few doors and windows. Part way through the morning she indicated to me that while she was cleaning, many of the students walking by had thanked her for what she was doing, and several gave her “thumbs up” and said “good job”. She was shocked that these kids were recognizing her for helping out at school. She looked at me and said, “Do you realize what you have here? This isn’t normal!”
Friends…I hope we aren’t “normal”, and that we are never “normal”! You see, as followers of Jesus Christ, we do things that aren’t normal. It isn’t normal to have a company offer to take over construction management on a portion of a project at no charge…or for someone to drop off a $7,000 invoice with the amount crossed off to $0! And it’s unusual to have ten year old kids thank a grandma for work that she is doing at their school. This is what happens when you love Jesus. You love others through your words and actions. And the love of Jesus comes shining through in so many ways at HCS! This is why we have so much to celebrate!
Serving THE ONE with you…
