October 5 Home Communicator – On the recent early release Friday, Hudsonville Christian staff came together for professional development or “PD” as it is known in the teaching world. PD is something that happens in all schools, public, private, and Christian. Teachers around the country learn about assessments, best practices in teaching, and other topics to help them improve their craft. Hudsonville Christian staff has also learned about many of these topics throughout the years. On this particular sunny afternoon in mid September, HCS staff had the opportunity to focus on the “WHY” of HCS. WHY our school was established and WHY it continues to partner with hundreds of families each year to offer a distinguished Christian education. We recognize that the “WHY” is because as believers, we know we need Christ and we want to share that truth with our students. Teaching them that they also have a need for a Savior and that believing in Christ’s redemption can truly be a transforming experience.
After thinking about the “WHY” of HCS, we spent time in groups discussing things that are happening in our world and how our school is responding. How we need to be committed to teaching and sharing values that align with the Biblical truths that we were founded on. As the school year continues, together our staff will spend time in the Bible and in prayer as we focus on every aspect of our day, being intentional about integrating His Word in our teaching and interactions. For the Word of God says: faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
What a privilege it is to celebrate our beliefs and worship God as a staff and a community of believers. I thank God everyday for HCS and the opportunity I have to be part of this family of believers. Please join me in praying for the students, staff, families and supporters of HCS as they navigate this world while holding fast to Christ.
Blessings, Jenny Gorter – Director of Educational Support Services
