September 20 Home Communicator – From “the one” to “The One”!
The Spotts family was blessed with the opportunity to travel to England this summer. Unknowingly, we had booked a trip on a “no children allowed” cruise line, evident from the first moments aboard the ship. The four members of our family were the four youngest passengers — by a long shot! Passenger conversations centered around politics, tea was consumed by the barrel, and the most popular entertainment involved British trivia.
As a typical American trying to burn some calories on the treadmill, I suited up in my Nerd Camp t-shirt and some nature print running tights. Little did I know what my clothing choice would lead to. A few days into the trip, our ship encountered 30 foot waves in “the worst storm since 1998”. For two days, passengers and crew held on for dear life. In a Boy Scout attempt to help an elderly passenger navigate the rocking ship, my clothing opened a conversation about The One.
“Oh, you are ‘the one’ who wore those lovely printed trousers earlier this week.” Needless to say, my pants had made quite an impact!
I happened to be wearing my HCS Difference Makers t-shirt while conversing with this lovely Brit. She asked many questions about HCS and why parents would choose a Christian education for their kids. Other curious passengers joined our conversation as well. What a great way to witness about The One!
At HCS, we strive to teach our students to be a witness to The One in any situation. My wild running tights gave me the opportunity to own the words from Matthew 28 — “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” This is my hope for our students at HCS as well.
