September 5 Home Communicator – Welcome back after the holiday weekend! I hope that you had a beautiful time of worship and also some wonderful family time.
At the end of last year the Lord really revealed something to me, and I think this may resonate with some of you too. When my kids would come home from school, I discovered that my first question to them would often be “Did you have a fun day today?” It really struck me that this is not truly the desire of my heart for them…that they just have fun. My desire for them is that they are intentional about showing the love of Jesus throughout the day, growing and learning in Him, and that my questions to them should reflect that.
I want to encourage you to think about some of the questions you are asking your kids, whether it’s when they get off the bus, around the dinner table, driving around to and from sporting events, or before bed. Might these questions look like: “How did you shine the light of Christ today?” or “Where did you see God at work during the day?” or maybe even “Did you experience someone showing Jesus to you today?”
Often throughout each week, Deuteronomy 6 comes to my mind (see scripture below). This passage sets a pattern that helps us relate the Word of God to our daily lives. The intentional questions we start asking our kids at the end of each day will likely lead into some beautiful discussions…and a closer walk with the Lord.
Telling HIS story with you…

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-9
