“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Ms. Mary Jo Staal
I graduated from Holland Christian in 1995. From there, I went to Calvin College where I graduated with a BA in Elementary Education (K-8), English, and Communication Arts and Sciences. I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades since starting at Hudsonville Christian in 1999. I became the Young 5s-5 Librarian in 2015. I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Library and Information Sciences through Wayne State University. I enjoy co-directing the 8th grade play each winter.
I grew up and continue to live in Holland. I attend Niekerk CRC where I have been involved with praise teams, high school Youth Group, Sunday School and various committees. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, reading, and anything involving theater.
Language, words, and story are gifts from God. We can learn about God’s world through the books we read, and I consider it a privilege to help all students develop a lifelong love of reading. I also strive to help our students be effective researchers and critical thinkers in today’s world that is filled with easily accessible information. Being the librarian gives me the opportunity to interact with every student in Young 5s thru 5th grade at Hudsonville Christian. It is exciting to not only watch the development of reading across the grades, but also the development of faith.
