Personal Biography

My wife, Cindy, and I were married in 1983.  We have 3 children who have attended Hudsonville and Unity Christian.  We have been actively involved with our church community throughout our marriage.  Most of my hobbies have been around sports. I have enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching many sports with my family over the years.  I also enjoy reading.

Philosophical Biography

Growing up working in the muck fields of Byron Center and having many younger foster kids and nephews and nieces in my house, I was often put in charge of watching over them.  When the time came to choose a college vocation, it was not a difficult one. I have always loved working with kids.  Teaching was the choice. I wanted a career in something I thought I could spend the next 40 years doing and enjoying.  I told my wife when the fun goes out of teaching I am done.  It just keeps getting better each year.

School needs to be fun if you want everyone to learn in the classroom.  I want my students to feel comfortable in the classroom with me, with others, and with themselves.  I feel honored and  privileged to have had some great Christian people in my life who have helped me and guided me in this direction too.  I feel called to return that favor to kids today.  I believe the greatest  challenge for me is to instill the thought in young minds that God calls us to live good lives,  to be His agents in the community, and to use Christian discernment to help build His kingdom on earth.

Years from now people may not remember where I lived, the  car I drove, or the church I attended, but hopefully that I made a  difference in the life of a child.
