“In his heart, a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps”.
Mr. Chris Achterhof
After graduating from Holland Christian in 2001, I pursued education at Calvin College where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis on History and Mathematics. I was then hired at Unity Christian in the fall of 2006 where I taught US History, AP Government, Economics, Student Council and coached a variety of sports for 16 years. While at Unity, I gained my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University and accepted the principal position at Hudsonville Christian Middle School in the summer of 2022.
My wife Emily and I, along with our three boys, live in Hudsonville. Emily works for the Adult Drug treatment court in Ottawa County helping people overcome drug and alcohol addictions. Our three boys attend Hudsonville Christian and when we aren’t breaking up fights between them, we enjoy camping, hiking, and playing a variety of sports.
As a previous US history and AP Government teacher, I have grown to appreciate how God works in our past and continues to reveal himself in the present. Being an administrator in a Christian school brings me joy because I get to partner with parents to help students walk in the Truth (3 John 4). Christian schools play a vital role in this journey. My hope for students at Hudsonville Christian Middle School is that they recognize everyone is made in the image of God, and they grow to love God and love others. I am blessed to be part of this community and look forward to partnering with parents as we “challenge minds and lives for Christ.”
