Personal Biography
I am married to my beautiful wife Kaylee, and we are excited to meet our first child in the beginning of March 2022. She is a nurse at Spectrum Butterworth downtown Grand Rapids. We both love music and singing. We participate in worship at Hillcrest Church together on a regular basis. Additionally, we are youth leaders for the highschoolers at Hillcrest and enjoy spending time with kids of that age group. We are hoping to become homeowners in the near future and do more hosting of family and friends. Some of my favorite hobbies include LEGO and gardening. I make my own LEGO models and create instructions for my custom creations. I got my green thumb from my dad who owns his own greenhouse business. I love the outdoors and experiencing nature in all it’s beauty. I especially enjoy visiting the West Michigan beaches. I love being active and enjoy friendly competition in almost any sport. However, table tennis and disc golf are two of my favorites. Yet, my favorite hobby is spending time with friends and family.
Philosophical Biography
Hudsonville Christian School represents an entire community of families and organizations that care deeply about the lives and minds of the children God has placed in their care. This level of commitment to quality and transformative education at Hudsonville Christian Schools is what excites me most about working here. We have a shared vision and longing for each student. I am excited and blessed to partner with parents and the entire HCS staff and the broader community to carry out this mission.
To the best of my ability, and by God’s grace, I strive to carry out the mission everyday in my classroom. As a science teacher I think one of the most important ways I can work towards that goal is to help my students see God’s created word as good and beautiful. I try to model for them what it looks like to stand back and just be in awe of just how awesome our God really is because of what he created and how he created it to work. Additionally, I try to show them through our study of science how much we truly depend on God for our every breath. One of the biggest Truths I want my students to learn while in my class is that this world was made by God, for God, and is sustained each and every moment by Him. Because of these Truths we can explore God’s created world and get to know Him more.
However, I am always humbled in the fact that I can plan great lessons, model for my students as best I can what it means to know and love God, I am not able to force them to accept the Truths we proclaim and love. Rather, it is by the working of the Holy Spirit that they come to love those Truths in their heart. Therefore, I am encouraged to continue in this mission of Christian education when I begin to see some of my students take hold of these Truths, proclaim these Truths, and choose to live differently because of these Truths. It reminds me that God’s timing is perfect, and that His Spirit is alive and working in my classroom. It also reminds me that as hard as I may try to be a perfect teacher, God is their ultimate teacher and it is my duty to help students to follow His teachings, even before they follow mine. as it says in Matthew 28:20 when Jesus commissions His disciples “teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you”.
