“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Mr. Jon Huisman
I graduated from Calvin College in 2000 with a degree in elementary education. My focuses were in Math and English. I have taught at Hudsonville Christian Middle School for 17 years. I have taught a variety of subject areas, but am currently teaching Bible, Science, and Math. I received my Master’s degree from Grand Valley State University in the area of Middle School Education.
My wife and I have been blessed with three children, and we really enjoy living in Hudsonville. We love spending time together camping, boating, visiting friends’ cottages, or biking around town.
I realized God’s calling for me to become a teacher my sophomore year at Calvin College. I was pretty sure growing up that I did not want to be a teacher. This was because both of my parents were teachers, and I thought I wanted to be something else. God knew better. He directed me to education, and I have been thankful ever since. I love teaching middle school students. I love the energy they possess and the curiosity they have. I can not see myself teaching anywhere other than in the middle grades. Teaching at a Christian school was the only option for me. I love God, and I don’t know that I could teach without being able to share this with my students daily. I love sharing and discussing my faith in Jesus Christ with my classes. I count it a privilege as well as a responsibility to teach every subject area from a Christian perspective.
