I Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Mr. Luke Holtrop

Professional Biography

I am excited to be serving the HCS community as a middle school physical education teacher and athletic director.  I received my bachelor’s degree from Calvin College with teaching certificates in K-12 physical education and 6-12 health education.  I have been blessed with professional experience in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Byron Center and now Hudsonville ranging from K-12 physical education and athletics.

Personal Biography

My wife Ruth and I have been blessed with two daughters.  It is a joy to watch them grow and discover all that is new.  I enjoy most things sports related whether it be playing, coaching or spectating.  In my spare time I can be found in the woods or on the water depending on the season.

Philosophical Biography

It is my hope that each student will gain competency in a variety of activities and that they will discover something that they can enjoy long past middle school.  Whether it is fitness, sport or leisure based, it can be seen as an avenue to remain healthy in our service to our Heavenly Father.  It is also my responsibility to help educate through physical education.  Physical education and athletics tend to provide an environment that is very susceptible to the encouragement and cultivation of Christ-like character and community.  I value good classroom community as well as the opportunity to grow along side your children in our effort to become more Christ-like.

This is a wonderful Christian community.  I feel very much a part of a team whose goals are in line and whose effort to achieve those goals is admirable.  I am encouraged by the fact that our Heavenly Father is very much, already in each classroom, home and church (Romans 11:36).  In light of this it becomes our job to provide our students with a distinctively Christian and biblical worldview through which they see ALL things!
