Romans 12:1
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Mr. Mike Hoekstra
Professional Biography
I attended Calvin College and graduated with a teaching degree in Elementary Education. I did Educational support at a charter school before going into ministry work. My wife, Jennifer, and I worked at Appalachia Reach Out ministry in Inez, KY for a couple years, then I spent 6 years as the High School Youth Director at Georgetown CRC in Hudsonville. In addition to being at HCS, I am also a bus driver for Hudsonville Public School. A number of years ago I took the Master Gardner and Master Naturalist classes through the MSU extension office.
Personal Biography
I am married to Jennifer who is the new 8th grade social studies teacher at HCS Middle School. We have four children Alison (freshman at Calvin University), Caleb (senior at Unity), Benjamin (9th grade), and Andrew (5th). I have several hobbies and interests: coaching Little League baseball, camping, hiking, board games, gardening, and playing my guitar. I have also been a middle school youth leader at our church for 9 years.
Philosophical Biography
I believe that God called me to be at Hudsonville Christian school this year to serve. I am excited to see the students learn more about God’s creation as we explore our nature space in the “front yard” of HCS. My favorite verse comes from the book of Romans. Romans 12 talks about offering yourself as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. I try every day to live by God’s will and not conform to the pattern of this world. It is my prayer that I will have many opportunities to help students do the same during this school year.
