Luke 18: 16

“But Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'”

Professional Biography

My undergraduate work was completed at Calvin College where I graduated as a Physical Education Major. Since then I have taken continuing education classes at both Michigan State and Grand Valley State.  My teaching career began at Hudsonville Christian School, where I began teaching fourth grade. I taught a fourth grade classroom for sixteen years before I started sharing my classroom with Mrs. VandeSteeg. During the next nine years I taught Bible, math, and science to my fourth grade homeroom, and then technology to third through fifth graders. For the last ten years I have been strictly teaching technology and maintaining the technology equipment in the elementary building.

Personal Biography

I married my wife, Tammy, in 1986. We then had two biological children, Kelsey and Brad. During those first years of our marriage, my wife had cancer twice; so, it was recommended that we not have any more children for five years. It was during this time that we decided to foster with the intent of adopting.  We have now adopted nine kids for a total of eleven. Eight of our children are out of the house with three still at home.

I enjoy hiking trips and gardening.

Philosophical Biography

It was while coaching in high school and college that I felt God’s calling to teach. I see each child as made special by God with a purpose in His kingdom. I, too, value each child as special with potential that needs to be developed.
