I graduated from Calvin College with a BA in Elementary Education but stayed home to raise my young children. Then in 1992, I was encouraged by many and led by God to go back to Calvin College to be recertified in Elementary Education. I have taught first and second grade for many years.

Personal Biography

I am married to Joel.  We have been blessed with three married children who reside in the area and seven precious grandchildren.

Philosophical Biography

I have been called by God to partner with parents and the church to teach His children about Him.  “For (everything) is from Him, through Him, and to Him.”  (Romans 11:36 )  He has a plan and a purpose for each of us.

Each student is like a puzzle piece or a crayon.  Each is created as an image-bearer of God yet with a unique, chosen purpose.  It is then my responsibility to teach each individual according to his or her ability.  I must help each student develop his or her gifts so God’s greater picture can be complete.

At HCS, I have the opportunity to do that while sharing my faith. I can explain to the children God’s plan of salvation.  We can review it often in many settings.  I can teach them how to think through situations and make decisions based on God’s Word and what Jesus would do.  In second grade, I have the responsibility to teach each student how to read. Reading then enables each student to become a life-long learner of God’s world and His Word.  It is a blessing to teach in this Christian school with supportive parents and wonderful kids.
