“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.”
Mrs. Emily Pettinga
I graduated from Dordt College in 2005 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and a minor in reading. I taught in Grand Rapids from 2005 – 2010. I stepped aside from teaching in 2010 to stay home with our daughter and to open my own in-home daycare. I started working at HCS in 2013.
My husband and I live in Grandville. We have a daughter and a son. As a family we enjoy all outdoor activities; camping, hiking, playing at the beach, biking, and going to the Farmer’s market. I personally enjoy cooking, baking, gardening and reading.
I count myself blessed to be able to work with God’s precious children in the field of education. In Matthew 22 it says, “Love the Lord your God…and love your neighbor as yourself.” This verse is my model for my life and my teaching. I believe my neighbor is not only my actual neighbor but also my family, the students I interact with, my co-workers, my community and those that live across the world. I believe all God’s children are unique, special and created with a purpose. I hope to treat each child the way their heavenly Father would; with love, compassion and dignity. I hope that by modeling these attitudes, the children I spend my day with will also develop a love and compassion for people that are different from themselves. I believe that in this way, they can better show Christ’s love to everyone they meet.
