1 Thessalonians 5:16 - 18
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Mrs. Jennifer Hoekstra
Professional Biography
I graduated from Calvin College in 1998 with a double major in Elementary and Special Education. I taught 4th grade for two years at Sylvan Christian in Grand Rapids. After those two years in the classroom God opened many, many different opportunities for teaching in places other than in a school classroom. I spent two years tutoring students in preschool through high school and leading Bible studies in Inez, Kentucky; 14 years teaching Injury Prevention at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital; and a full year of substitute teaching in various grades and subjects. I’ve also had the privilege of coaching many different sports over the years including volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball.
Personal Biography
I have been married to my husband, Mike (who also teaches at HCS!) for 23 years. We have 4 awesome kids. Alison is starting her freshman year at Calvin University, Caleb is a senior at Unity Christian, Benjamin is a freshman at Unity, and Andrew is in 5th grade at HCS. We love spending time hiking and camping together. I love reading books and singing praise songs. Mike and I spend a lot of time watching and coaching our kids in all their different sports. We are a pretty busy family, but we wouldn’t trade it for anything!
Philosophical Biography
I grew up in a wonderful Christian family and attended Christian schools all my life. I have come to appreciate the way Christian school community comes together to support each other. My heart is excited to be part of that community as a parent and now as a staff member. I am so excited to work with middle school students. I love the fact that they are trying to figure out who they are, where they fit in the world, and what gifts and talents they have to offer the community around them. I hope and pray that my students will know that I care for them and want to encourage, support and challenge them to become who God has called them to be. I can’t wait to share with students the power of God’s story!
