“Be still and know that I am God.”
Mrs. Joani VanderStelt
I graduated from Calvin College in 1982 with a B.A. in Elementary Education majoring in Special Education with an endorsement in Mental Impairment. I received my Masters degree in teaching reading from Calvin College in 1990. I have taught for 25 years in a variety of grade levels Preschool through 3rd Grade in a variety of schools. I have been teaching at Hudsonville Christian since 2000. My first five years were spent in the kindergarten, and at the present time I am teaching Young 5’s.
In 1982 I married Tom, a fourth grade teacher at HCS. We have two adult sons. Our oldest son is married, employed as a worship leader, and is living in Grand Rapids, MI. Our youngest son is employed full time as a Network Engineer. I enjoy any time spent with my family, including my precious granddaughter. I also enjoy walking, catching up with friends, and any and all opportunities to laugh.
I am grateful that God has chosen me to take my place in His kingdom at Hudsonville Christian School. Being able to look at all I teach through the lens of my love for my Lord is such a blessing. I especially enjoy telling Bible stories. It is a time when I can feel and see God at work in the growing faith of my young friends. It is my privilege to partner with the parents of HCS. I am blessed and encouraged by the support I receive from them. I am inspired by their love and support of their children, and the sacrifices they make to provide their children with a Christ centered education.
My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.” My prayer in teaching young children is that they will grow in their faith and love for their Lord. I pray that they will know God by what they see and learn from me.
