Mrs. Katie Heerspink

Professional Biography:

I graduated from Calvin College in 2006 with my B.A. in elementary education with an emphasis on mathematics education. I was very fortunate to have educational experiences in both New Mexico and Chicago, IL while at Calvin. I began my career at Westminster Christian School in Miami, FL where I taught mathematics to students in 6 – 8th grade for 5 years.  I earned my Masters of Education degree in 2014 from Michigan State University with an emphasis on mathematics and technology. I joined the Hudsonville Christian Middle School staff in 2015.

Personal Biography:

In the summer of 2009 I married my husband, Eric.  We welcomed our first child in December 2018 and our second child in May 2021. I enjoy many activities, but love anything that allows me to spend time with my family. I love going out for coffee, camping, exploring new towns/traveling, being on or near the water, watching sunsets on Lake Michigan, and having projects to work on.  Eric is a ceramic artist and I have grown to appreciate pottery.  I enjoy attending and selling at art shows and finding new galleries and helping him in his ceramics business.

Philosophical Biography:

I teach because there is joy, excitement, and reasons to celebrate each day as students learn and grow together. I love teaching in a Christian school where students and teachers have the opportunity to support each other in prayer and create a spiritual community.  Every day comes with new possibilities and challenges, but one of the best parts of teaching in a Christian school is helping students see that they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength (Phillipians 4:13) and when they cast their cares on Him, he will sustain them. (Psalm 55:22a).
