Professional Biography

After graduating from Holland Christian High School, I attended Calvin College where I  earned a B.A. in Secondary Math Education with a minor in Physical Education. Upon graduating from Calvin, I spent a semester substitute teaching and assisting the swim program at Calvin College before taking a teaching position at Calvin Christian School in Edina, Minnesota.  I taught middle school math, Bible, and P.E. but returned home to be closer to family after two years.  I spent a year substitute teaching and again assisting the swim program at Calvin College before coming on board at Hudsonville Christian Middle School to teach 8th grade math and Bible in 2007.  Since then, I completed my Master’s in Education in Instruction and Curriculum through Grand Valley State University and now serve as Faith Nurture Coordinator and middle school girls’ PE teacher.

Personal Biography

My husband, Rick, and I were married in 2008. We have walked “down the aisle” twice together in our lives. The first time was as a “randomly” assigned pair into our high school graduation ceremony and the second, of course, on our wedding day!  The first addition to our family was our Goldendoodle, Wrigley, and six years later we welcomed our son, Carson, into our family.  Although our free time activities have changed significantly since we became parents, we love to spend time together in God’s creation, particularly at the beach or on the water.

Philosophical Biography

Having attended Christian schools all my life, I have come to appreciate the community that exists in them. When I was a child, I always knew my teachers loved and cared about me as one of God’s children who bears His image. As a teacher, it is my hope that each student in my classroom gets to experience that as well. It is also my goal to share the outstanding intelligence and creative ability of our Lord who made the laws that govern our world and who crafted our amazing bodies.  Physical education provides opportunities to honor and glorify God as we develop new skills, play games and learn to care for our bodies through physical fitness.
