Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Mrs. Kelly Leatherman

Professional Biography

I grew up the oldest of 4 children and taught many “classes” to my younger brothers.  I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for a career but as the time grew closer God led me to pursue a teaching degree.  I graduated in 2003 from Cornerstone University with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education; minoring in math and physical education.  After graduation, I did some substitute teaching at Hudsonville Christian while raising my first son.  This eventually led to a position as a paraprofessional in the Inclusive Education room for two years until two more children helped me decide to take some time off to raise my family.  When my children were all in school, I came back to HCS in the Early Childhood Program.

Personal Biography

I married Greg Leatherman in 2004 after being friends throughout college.  We have a lot of fun together and both have a competitive side so we like to push each other in pretty much everything!  God blessed us with three amazing children.  Todd, Caden and Kylie all attend Unity Christian HS and HCS and bring pure joy into my life.  I now know why Jesus wanted the little children to come to Him.  There is nothing greater!  I enjoy being active.  I love to run, bike, swim, hike and play softball and volleyball.  Our family enjoys doing many of these activities together as well as camping and fishing.  I also love to read and watch movies.  They are my favorite ways to relax and unwind after a long day.

Philosophical Biography

My favorite verse is the reason I teach and what gets me through each day.  Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  I like to be in control and tend to be a perfectionist in many areas of my life.  There have been many times in life where I have felt out of control but God has always walked me through it!  Having children especially has taught me that I am not in control and all I can do is my best, and trust that God is in control of the future.  I can choose a Christian school, I can make each child feel special, I can show them love and teach them about God’s love, but I have to trust their future to God’s hands and God’s master plan. It is not always easy but it gives me peace and comfort to know that God is always in control. I am glad I get to be a part of each child’s life in Preschool as they start their walk with Christ and hope to see them at the end of it too when we are in heaven together!
