Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Mrs. Lori Schout

Professional Biography

Both my undergraduate (BA) and my graduate studies (MAT) were completed at Calvin College. My first teaching position was at Academia Los Pinares, an English-speaking mission school, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I then moved to south Florida where I both taught and worked as school administrator for five years. In 1989 I came to HCS to teach first grade. When my husband and I started our family I changed from full time classroom teaching to working as a paraprofessional. I stayed with first grade for 10 more years, and then God moved me to the middle school working with the inclusive education and the Educational Support Services programs.

Personal Biography

My husband John and I were married in 1989.  We have two daughters who have graduated from Hudsonville Christian, Unity Christian and Calvin College.  We enjoy traveling, finding antiques, reading, fishing, and cooking and entertaining for friends, family and church functions.

Philosophical Biography

The Greek meaning for “para” is to come alongside; that is how I see my position as paraprofessional. I come alongside both the classroom teachers and the students to encourage, support, and also to be an advocate for the students. It is a privilege to help the students to grow socially, academically, and spiritually. I encourage each student to discover and develop their unique God-given gifts and abilities.
