“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Mrs. Malyn VanKoevering
I received my BA in Elementary Education from Hope College in 2010. I worked in Hudsonville Public Schools from 2010-2019, and I was blessed with the opportunity to move to Hudsonville Christian in 2019. I have previously taught first and second grade, as well as some art and music classes at those grade levels along the way.
My husband Seth and I live in Hudsonville with our three daughters. I love to read – my favorite summer day is spent relaxing by some water and reading a book. It doesn’t happen as often as I would like with busy kids, so these days I enjoy spending time with my family. I love to see how my girls soak up new experiences and the joy they get from the simple things in life.
I enjoy being able to partner with parents to help their child grow as a learner. Each student comes to me with such different needs and starting points, and I love being able to meet them where they are and help them feel successful – even if it doesn’t look like everyone else’s success.
Feeling safe and secure is also a priority for me. I strive to create a classroom environment that welcomes making mistakes and trying again. I do my best to keep a calm, predictable routine where all students can feel comfortable to share and learn together.
Coming from working many years at a public school, I can tell you how amazing it is to be able to share God’s love and His words with the students throughout the day. Multiple times a day we can connect what we are learning or how we are solving problems back to God. It is such a blessing to be in a school that is filled with God’s presence.
